Do not smoke or use a lighter or any matches. Do not operate any electrical switches. Open all windows and doors and turn off the meter at the control valve unless the meter is in the cellar. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

At the top of the problem radiator on either the left or right hand side there will be a bleed vent using a radiator key turn it anticlockwise. A small amount of air will come out followed by water. When the water comes out turn the radiator key clockwise to close the bleed vent. Its a good idea to have some tissue underneath the bleed vent to stop dirty water getting onto the carpet. If this is on a pressurised system you need to check the system pressure afterwards and make sure its set to 1.2 bar.

All appliances must have a safety check completed every 12 months and serviced according to the manufactures obstructions. If an appliance is unchecked it could leave you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. You should also get any gas pipework checked at the same time. If you are a landlord by law you have to do this.

Under no circumstances can anybody not gas safe registered work on any gas burning appliance. You’re not even aloud to remove the front case. Do not let anybody work on you’re gas appliances or pipework before you check that they are on the gas safe register.
